Web application for branded shortened URLs.

Deprecated the legacy application to deploy a modern, secure and intuitive one that could be trusted by our users.

Brought the application into compliance in terms of security by adopting the university’s 2FA, decreasing incidents of phishing attempts drastically.

Milestones

Phase 1: Established project’s scope and decided on build vs. buy scenario

  • Decided to build in-house based on flexibility, skill set and timeline.

Phase 2: Determined project’s features, timelines and roadmap

  • Use cases and feedback sessions with stakeholders.

Phase 3: Design and development iterations

  • User testing included to validate designs, layouts and features.

Phase 4: launched MVP – Spring 2020

  • Same features and scope as legacy solution plus the addition of 2FA.

  • Designs and code-base redone from scratch with the mindset of setting up the foundations for future iterations.

Phase 5: User feedback and testing

  • Collected feedback through surveys and data analytics to determine features validation and user needs.

  • Identified key elements: links expiration and notifications, analytics component.

Phase 6: Deployed expiration feature and analytics component – Summer 2020

  • Redesigned the main dashboard interface as well as updated the β€œcreate link” interface to support these features.

  • Placed the project on a monthly review plan to allow for data to be collected and then analyze/validate these decisions.

TBD - Backlog (Fall 2020)

  • On-going collection of feature requests and potential components, to be determined based on priority and impact

    • Notifications (emails) as links are approaching expiration.

    • Ability to transfer ownership of a link.

    • Ability to set links to not expire (ever), currently: 1, 3, 6, 12 months options.
